7.4/10

My stay at The Sofia Hotel had its highs and lows. The hotel's historic charm and prime downtown location were definitely highlights, making it easy for me to explore nearby attractions. However, my experience was marred by some significant service issues, including an incident where I was given keys to an occupied room, which was quite alarming. Overall, while I appreciated the friendly atmosphere and the gorgeous architecture, the service left much to be desired. 😕

Rooms

The Deluxe King Room was decent in size, with a comfortable bed and a recently renovated bathroom. However, I did encounter issues with noisy air conditioning and a shower with low pressure.

The staff's helpfulness varied; while I had positive interactions with some, a major oversight regarding my room key and housekeeping services really impacted my stay.

The location was truly a gem—easy access to the Convention Centre and numerous dining options nearby made my stay very convenient.

While the hotel lacks an on-site breakfast option, there were plenty of nearby eateries. I had a nice time enjoying the bar atmosphere, which was a great spot for evening drinks.

I had a pleasant stay at The Sofia Hotel, enjoying its charming mix of modern and classic decor. The location was perfect for exploring San Diego, offering easy access to nearby eateries and attractions. However, the elevators felt a bit small and limited during busy times, which was a minor inconvenience.

Rooms

My room was spacious with a comfortable bed and well-equipped with a fridge and microwave. The modern shower with a large head was a particular highlight, but I could see how some might find the bathroom layout lacking in privacy.

The hotel had a good selection of amenities, including a hydration station on my floor, which I found very useful. However, I missed some of the usual services due to ongoing restrictions.

5.4/10

My stay at The Sofia Hotel had its ups and downs. The staff was friendly and helpful, which made check-in a breeze (even during these times!). However, my room was quite small and had some inconvenient features that impacted my overall comfort. The location is fantastic for exploring downtown San Diego, but the noise from the bar could be a drawback for light sleepers.

Rooms
6.0
I found my room to be clean but cramped, with limited space to move around. The bathroom layout was awkward, and the shower pressure was underwhelming. Still, the bed was comfortable, and I appreciated the microwave and fridge.
Service
8.0
The staff consistently provided friendly service, and they were quick to resolve any issues I had, like the loose HDMI connection for the TV. Both check-in and checkout were smooth experiences.
Location
9.0
The hotel's prime downtown location is a major advantage, just a short walk to the Gaslamp area and the Convention Center. I loved being close to restaurants and shops, making it easy to explore the city.
Dining

While the hotel restaurant was closed during my stay, I enjoyed the convenience of nearby dining options. The local eateries offered a variety of choices, really enhancing my experience.
Facilities

Although the gym had basic equipment and there were complimentary amenities like flavored water in the lobby, I noticed some services were limited due to ongoing restrictions, which affected the overall experience.

5.6/10

During my stay at The Sofia Hotel, I appreciated the hotel’s clean and historic charm, though I felt the overall value for the price could use some improvement. The location is totally a win, with easy access to the harbor and Gaslamp district. On the downside, the room I got was quite small, and there were some unwelcome inconveniences like a lack of proper space management in the room. Overall, I had a decent experience but would like to see more thoughtful amenities next time.

Rooms
5.0
The room I stayed in was on the smaller side, with some awkward furniture placement making things a bit cramped. I didn't feel like I got the king room I booked, which was a little frustrating.
Service
6.0
The staff were cordial and helpful, though not overly friendly. Communication was clear regarding hotel policies.
Location
8.0
I really liked the location, being so close to the harbor and all the buzz in the Gaslamp district. It made exploring the city super easy.
Dining
6.0
There was a restaurant attached to the hotel, which was always busy. I didn’t eat there myself, but it's obviously popular.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel had some good amenities like valet parking, which I found a bit pricey, and options for housekeeping services. However, some things seemed outdated, like the lobby.

5.0/10

My stay at The Sofia Hotel had its ups and downs. I loved the prime location, just a short walk to the Gaslamp district, and the helpful staff made my check-in smooth. However, the room was quite cramped and had some issues, like the poor water pressure in the shower and unreliable WiFi. Overall, it was an average experience, but I probably wouldn't stay here again.

Rooms
5.0
The room was small and I entered directly into the bathroom, which felt awkward. The shower was pretty, but the water pressure was disappointing, drizzling weakly. On the positive side, the bed was comfortable, though there was hardly any space to move around.
Service
7.0
The staff was friendly and helpful, which made my interactions pleasant. However, when I faced issues with the room's TV, the response was quick, but I did struggle with the internet connection throughout my stay.
Location
9.0
The location is fantastic, really close to the Gaslamp district and numerous dining options. I appreciated how easy it was to get around the city from there. I felt safe walking to nearby attractions during the day.
Dining
5.0
While the hotel restaurant was closed, I was glad to have a Starbucks nearby for some quick coffee options, even if it was pick-up only. It was a bit limiting, but I found it manageable.
Facilities
6.0
The gym had a decent setup with a few machines, but I noticed a lack of sanitizing supplies, which was odd. Additionally, it was frustrating that there was no WiFi in my room, but I enjoyed the flavored water available on my floor.
